Language Agreement

Language Agreement

The UK has ratified the Agreement adopted in London on October 17, 2000 (Language Agreement) concerning the application of art. 65 CBE. According to such article, whoever applies for a European patent in the UK following grant of a European patent in a language other than English, must provide an English translation. Such translation will no longer be necessary, starting from three months after the ratification of the Agreement by the eight ratifying States. Currently France is the only country not to have yet ratified the Agreement.
