Hewlett Packard Vs. Storage Apps.

Hewlett Packard Vs. Storage Apps.

Hewlett-Packard has agreed to pay $325 million to EMC concerning a series of patent infringement lawsuits of 2001. HP is to pay in cash or through purchase of EMC products, the two companies having signed a five-year cross-license agreement. HP inherited a lawsuit against Storage Apps. in 2001 when the company was acquired. EMC won the lawsuit in 2004 but HP appealed. In the meantime, HP had sued EMC in 2002 for patent infringement, while EMC countersued with similar allegations. In October 2004 HP filed another lawsuit. This last agreement settles the whole matter.
