South Korea, Patent Right Recovery System

the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) plans to introduce a patent right recovery system. On the basis of this system, patents that have expired because of arrears of patent fees will be recovered if thrice the amount of normal patent fees is paid within three months prior to termination of the preservation period. The system will be introduced by request of the professionals who complain that computational mistakes of a patent right duration can easily lead to irreversible loss of a patent right if a deadline for payment is missed. The UK, Germany and the US have similar systems already in place.
