The Duhuang Academy, the offical Chinese institute in charge of protection, research and management of the treasures of the Dunhuang grottoes, have been using state of the art digital photographic technology to capture the cave murals, invisible under natural light or inaccessible because of the structure of the caves, as part of the “Digital Duhuang” project, which aims to pool all the treasures from the Duhuang. The Academy has recently announced tat it holds all rights to images of the ancient treasures under the Chinese Intellectual Property Rights laws.
