Korea, Madrid Protocol
As of April 10th, 2003, foreign applicants may apply for trademark registration in Korea through the Madrid Protocol. However, trademark owners should be aware of the following points: – Korea has opted for the individual fee – Korea has opted for the 18-month period for refusal, rather than the 12-month period. – The International application must be in English: French is not accepted. – Registered trademarks that are not used for a period of three years or more, will be cancelled. – Well-known trademarks that are not registered will be given the same protection as registered ones.
