Korean Translation

As of January 1, 2006, there is no longer any obligation to submit a Korean translation of a priority document to the KIPO. This applies only to those cases in which the priority document to the KIPO expires on or after January 1, 2006. Thus, for a conventional application having priority date on or before August 31, 2004 the translation is still required (the deadline being 16 months from the earliest priority). If the priority date is on or after September 1, 2004, then it is not required. For a PCT application, for which KIPO’s notification date of receipt of a PCT priority document is on or before October 31, 2005 (the time-frame being 2 months), a translation is required. On the contrary, if it is on or after November 1, 2005, then the translation is not required.
