Morocco, New Ip Law No. 17-97
As of December 18th, 2004, the new IP law No. 17-97 will be in force. The following changes, among others, will apply: – One application will cover the two zones of Casablanca and Tangier – Duration will be 10 years from filing date, renewable indefinitely for like periods. – A grace period of 6 months is given for renewals – Non-use of the mark for 5 years will result in its cancellation – Collective and service marks are registrable – Trademarks are no longer protected by use and the owners of non-registered trademarks are granted a six-month grace period to have their trademarks registered.
