: The Patent, Industrial Designs and Trademarks Act of 2002 came into force on April 10th, 2004. The new Trademark Law provides for service marks. Convention priority may now be claimed under the Paris Convention. Instead of the previous 7 and 14 year terms, successive ten year terms are now allowed. The new act brings in changes in the classification system, provisions for multi-class applications and provisions for the protection of well-known marks. Marks that are well known in Mauritius are recognized and may be enforced, even if unregistered.
