Well-Known Trademark Registration

The Turkish Patent Institute has recently announced that it will accept applications for the registration of well known marks. The Institute has announced 18 criteria that will be taken into account for the evaluation of applications. A pre-condition, however is that the mark must be registered before the Turkish Patent Institute. Two categories of well-known trademarks will exist: one with protection for all classes of the Nice Agreement, and one only for the classes related to the relevant industry.
