With the term Design it is meant the appearance of a product or a part thereof.
This appearance shall result from some external features of the product, including, in particular, the lines, contours, colors, shape, texture and / or materials used. The registration, therefore, protects the external appearance of the product (or one of its parts), however, it is not necessary that the design looks nice. Also separate parts of a more complex product may be registered as designs. It is therefore clear that the protection of designs is applicable potentially to any craft / industrial product, including packaging, presentations (e.g.: homepage, webpage design, web design extracts, billboards) shops layout, food design, graphic symbols, typographic characters etc…
The registration of a design grants to its owner the exclusive right to use it and to prohibit third parties from using it without his consent.
